The arts are an important facet of life at SU.
Students make music with the Sour Sitrus Society (basketball pep band), the Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra, Black Celestial Choral Ensemble, a cappella groups like The Mandarins and Orange Appeal, and many others.
Dance troupes are also a popular form of self-expression at SU. Creations, DanceWorks, Kalabash, and Raices are a few of the dance groups on campus.
Students interested in drama don’t have to be drama majors to take to the stage. Students from across the University help to put on a full-scale musical production each spring as part of the First Year Players student organization. For those who would rather be spectators, the Department of Drama puts on six or seven full-scale productions each year.
If the visual arts are your thing, the grounds of campus are a museum in and of themselves with sculpture and art work dotting the campus. The University also maintains a permanent collection gallery adjacent to the Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery, a campus gallery that shows professional, faculty, and student exhibitions each year.
If what’s happening on campus isn’t enough, there are an infinite number of activities waiting for you in the City of Syracuse and the surrounding area. These include the theater, opera, visiting Broadway shows, frequent concert tours, museums, a symphony, and professional sports.
As a student you get reduced admission to many of these events through Pulse, a program that provides undergraduates with opportunities to attend and participate in programs, performances, exhibitions, and events in the performing arts.
