This summer has been one for the books for sure! I can’t believe how quickly this summer has flown by, and it’s just a matter of a few weeks before I return to campus to begin my senior year. I’ve had the great pleasure of being a part of so many special events and occasions throughout this summer, but this last one, which I attended, was amazing, and in its own class. I had the great honor of attending the 2nd Annual Marty Glickman Award for Leadership in Sports Media, presented by the Newhouse Sports Media Center. This year’s recipient was Marv Albert ’63, who currently, has a lead role with Turner Sports as a play-by-play announcer for both their NBA coverage and the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. This year’s program was held at HBO, and featured speakers (and light roasters) from throughout the sport media industry, including Ian Eagle ’90, Michael Weisman of NBC Sports, David Stern, and 2013 Glickman Recipient, and presenter of this year’s award, Bob Costas ’74. As an intern for Turner Sports this summer, being able to attend this event was even more unique, as I had the opportunity to speak for several minutes with Marv Albert about how incredible of an experience I’ve been having this summer, and even have a few jokes with the former commissioner of the NBA, David Stern.
