On Super Bowl weekend, when most eyes and attention were focused in on New York City for Super Bowl XLVIII, the focus of that weekend for months was on the nationally televised matchup between Syracuse and Duke. On February 1st when Syracuse took on Duke for their matchup in the ACC, the entire campus was electric, and becoming the #1 team in the nation that night after Arizona’s loss to Cal, made that weekend even more special. Though the game was set to tipoff at 6:30pm, I was at the Carrier Dome many hours before sunrise that morning for ESPN’s College Gameday. ESPN announced in August that Syracuse University had been chosen as one of their eight destinations to broadcast College Gameday live from at 10am on ESPNU and 11am on ESPN. I arrived at Boeheimburg (the student gate) at 5:45am, and entered the Dome at 7am.
The game had many storylines running as fellow Team USA coaches, Jim Boeheim and Mike Krzyzewski, would lead their respected schools in a top 25 matchup. Jim Boeheim was even quoted during his post-game press conference saying, “I don’t think I’ve been involved in a better game in here that I can remember.” Now while this weekend was one to remember, the rivalry and excitement is just getting started, and there’s so much more yet to come. So what’s it like to spend all day at the Carrier Dome? Check out this video, and take a behind the scenes tour of the day it was, as “A Rivalry is Born!” bit.ly/1fF8t3L
